Dedicated to all people who are under stress or stressed out!

Sitting at my notebook, checking my e-mails while wearing my over fitted cloths drinking a comforting drink (not to name it, though for those in Islamic countries!) and looking outside of window and thinking this is day either I have to go walking or tennis playing. The whole profound thinking is shattered by a sound of a phone ring. I ran towards the phone without ever thinking what will come next I pick up the phone. My eyes are almost popping out. I am asked whether I am ready or not must get ready to go to the airport! And I hear the voice without me confirming or saying much pronouncing: “…see you in 15”. I ran to grab my PDA look at the dates. I could swear the flight was tomorrow and the presentation was later the next day!
Frantically, I changed cloths and threw some clothing into my suitcase and thinking what has really happened that I missed such an obvious date! Being pick up in front of my house I started to tell “you can’t believe this to the colleague…”. On the way to the airport I try to reduce my anxiety and make myself to clam down, but without much success.

It wasn’t too much that I had no talk ready, or even that I was in such a rush, as it was that I just wasn’t mentally ready to be traveling or thinking about preparing any presentation. As an engineer my life has a certain rhythm, and every trip or project has its own predictable rise and fall, its preordained sequence of programmed events. Now the routine has been shattered, and I was at sea, adrift without a rudder. I was supposed to be enjoying the day with a tennis game and relaxing mood per say (too much for that!)!

On the airplane I tried to focus on thinking about what I might say in the presentation and how I can defend my points, but my thoughts were a jumble. On the top of the jumble, something else was hanging over my head! It took a little while to identify it, but when I did, I felt I had moved into the twilight zone. I realized I was experiencing déjà vu, but not from anything that had ever actually happened to me. Oh, have I fall in sleep? Some one is pushing and shaving me. I was living out a dream, one that I had experienced several times in the past a dream where I am supposed to give a presentation but I have forgotten to prepare anything.
While feeling pulling and shaving, I opened up my eyes and realize that my door is getting knocked on!
Who is it? I asked. Thanks for waking me up! Oh, yes, let’s go playing tennis, dude.

These types of dreams include the ones that I am in university and have an exam the next day and I haven’t prepared anything for it are common between many of us! Talking to many friends and others they have same dreams, from time to time. What I wonder although I have never missed such a dates I still see these type of dreams. I wonder if this isn’t something socially communicated ancestral memory. Perhaps, I am lucky that I do not day dream as much as I used to back in early years!

But back to the plane, that was enough of mumbling, I have presentation to prepare! Or am I supposed to get ready for a tennis game!!

Lessons to be learned!

When it comes to support and getting along we are the worst nation on earth! This is according to my own experiences for past 16 years living outside as well as inside of Iran. Indians more or less get along pretty well; if help needed they wouldn’t take back their supporting hand, Chinese I think most of you know how close they are. Of course, Germans, Americans and Brazilians must be added to the above pool.

It has been about a month since this Brazilian guy has moved here to our guesthouse. It is so amazing that I see everyday new Brazilian knocking our door to invite him for a party or just to say hi. For the past few days that there are three of us in the house and practically there are two of us since Spanish guy has gone camping in middle of Switzerland, these so called Brazilian have taken over our house! (This is my nagging part!)
They come in hang around in corridors, talk very loud in their own language and then go out and come back and make very deep fired food that the entire house smells like Oil!(I do not get this love these guy have for deep fried food!) Ok, let me get a little more into details about the original topic!

In fact, there are 2 girls and one guy (For those in North America it is not even close to "two guys and a girl and a pizza place").
The guy is my housemate, of course, and the two girls live in other guesthouses. They hang around so friendly that it makes me wonder if we (Iranians) can ever be so close to provide any support they do to one another! In Canada, for example, it was so difficult to get couple of girls and boys together for a night out or hang out. After a few sessions, you see girls are gossiping about other girls and boys do the same about their counter parts!
Here these Brazilians simply come over and laying down on the bed of the Brazilian guy watch TV! Imagine, my tongue is sliced and forbidden to talk, such act was implemented by one of our own girls and boys!!!!(I think I would stop discussing about it)!

I had opportunity talking to one of Iranian students here who enunciating about the same issue. He was saying he hardly talks to his Iranian classmates because they are so snobby! Talking to the other part of spectrum, I suppose, I am sure they would have their own reason for not hanging out with their own country man!

Where I work, for instance, there is no Iranian to my knowledge except two professors who are in civil engineering and physics department, respectively. Almost since the first time that my boss introduced me to them, they tend to ignore me if they are passing by me!

Culturally, I think we have long way to go. We have not been able to tolerate our own! We have not accepted what we are and who we are. We have a big conflict of cultural values right between ourselves.

Let’s work on that area we may prevail the fact of tolerating ourselves at last!

Miracle of new glasses!!

1. Once again it is the weekend and I have not shaved my face (I usually do not shave on the weekend as my skin gets sensitive).
Walking on streets people were looking at me with lots of fear! I could read that in their eyes! Even when I got on a street-car an adolescent girl was quite suspicious on my looks. She wouldn't take her eyes off me with that suspicious look! until a miracle happened!!! I had ordered a new glasses and I picked it up! I have no idea what happened. But amazingly right after I have worn it, girls were looking at me smiling, one of them even blink at me to my surprise!! Believe me I could see the face gesture of people before having my glasses on, I wasn’t blind!! But I call this miracle of glasses!!

2. Here has got quite cold, probably it is around 5 to 8 degrees. people are wearing pullovers!

Getting proposed to is like...

1. I tend to forget my own anniversaries! I mean 2 years ago in Aug. I started this weblog! and I totally forgot about it. Happy birthday weblog!

2. Some people think that getting proposed to is like buying a real estate! So, what is the matter is the location location location my friends!!!
1. take your loved ones some place romantic
and then hear the proposal!!

(Please do not try this at your domestic household I take no responsiblity for the statement above what so ever!!!:-)<

Spanish dinner night by one of my roommates!!

1. Had a farily good day and exciting since I get lots of things working at work!

2. Ahmadi Nedjad (Iranian President) recommendation about Yahoo Icons after establishing Islamic government.

3. If you recall the story had all been started by me cursing my roommates and so, they got one after another disappeared from this hunted house that we all live in!! And now you read the rest of story as follows!!
...
What did you think?
No, no, no, I was just kidding.
...
The story starts like this. As I have mentioned I have this Spanish roommate whose birthday was yesterday. Tonight, apparently he decides to invite couple of co-workers for dinner, including me. The gathering was supposed to be starting at 8:00 pm. This was around the time I arrived. He indicated this is going to be Spanish and he will make Spanish food. What was he making, if you wonder: according to him, Spanish omelet! That is made of sliced potatoes plus eggs and onions. You deep fry the potatoes and onions as they become little crispy. Then add eggs and cook like there is no tomorrow in lots of oil! This was the recipe!
By the time I arrived he was frying the sliced potatoes with so much oil in pans that it seemed that the potatoes were soaked or washed by oil. The entire kitchen around the stew was oil saturated! and whatever dishes in the kitchen cabintes were avaliable were used making such a simple dish! Not that I complain, ever! It is friendly chat!(I have to admit that when I had gathering here with 9 people and made lasagna and salad and I didn’t make so much mess.)
Anyhow, add to this scenery the Spanish dude was going to his room and fighting with girl friend for an hour on the cell-phone every 10 minutes being around in the kitchen (do not have any idea, why?). So, finally around 10 the food was ready. But I had to help to remove some oil with technicality and trick! One way was using tissues like Kelinex! Another method was squeezing the omelet between two plates and let the oil run out!
Another thing I learned tonight was the fact there are Spanish wine that is sold in "Tetra pak boxes" like milks! He took those and added some orange juice into it and served as drink to us!
Moreover, I have learned some Germans are terrible people to make connection with. There were two German guys and a German girl who was girl friend of one of them. They were just talking to themselves and as soon as the dinner was finished they took off! No sense of humor what so ever! ok, just a frozen smile!
Oh, have to add this gossip; the British girl next door is in love with Spanish guy! Or at least this is what I percept!

Short note on Frustration!

For the past 2 days there is this gentleman who is president of LifeMOD software has come to train us about his software and how to use it. It has been 2 consecutive days of frustration since 80% of the workshops we have done one way or another had a problem, needless to say it wasn't converging. (If you wonder still 1.5 days to go!) He keeps telling us "I have never seen such errors before!!!".
You know after these 2 days sofar I have come to this conclusion that how amazing is the way our body is interacting. Simple flexion-extension of human lower torso and knee is heel of job in modeling. We have so much problem modling simple parts of body! Consequenctly, I also more and more realizing the fact that how important is someone's health. As I have always said health is number one issue the rests are spices!

Busy for a few days!

1. I think reading the following advertisment in one of the internet newspapers is informative. The short form of this message is that whomever wishes to take burden of his/her soul and have peaceful conscious must attend the classes by this Ojatoleslam Abtahi who will provide you with following items before you take part in classes plus you must sign and accept it!
Read it here (It is in Persian).

2. Starting tomorrow I will be quite busy with an intensive training, so I may not be able to write for a few days. As I by the time I get home I am dead!

3. The rain is still coming and finally flood took over! It is about the time! So, I'd better go see a Dr. It hurts!(Persoanl stuff!)

Why do I insist to clean the kitchen?!

The other day I was going to eat breakfast at my place I encountered the following animal (see above). I have no idea what is called, but I have also seen one in Iran. They usually crawl very slowly and as I far as I know they like to eat lettuce, vegetables and leaves. They have small black eyes with eye lashes and two antenna which can go inside and come out.
The first thing got my attention was how did he (ok, I wasn’t sure he or she, but I consider he!) got on cleaning clothing on kitchen sink!!
Then, the second experiement was that I realized he shows reaction toward camera flash and me being around!!
Anyhow, I take the matter into my hands and move him to outside with respect and smile! So, he doesn't feel bad!
Then, I asked my roommates about whether they have seen this animal. This is what I heard.
The Brazilian guy said: “I-Kh Saw-sh it, but I did not touch-sh it”. What was that anyway? He asked me!

The Spanish guy said: “I-hy Dihdn’t go to Kitchen when I saw-kh it!!”. "It looked Disgusti-ingsh!"

So, I think I was the only dude who wasn’t much afraid of that! could be becasue of age! Then I made recommendation please clean all surfaces after you have eaten!!

2. Rain keeps coming! check out this forecast for upcoming days in Zurich

3. Have you noticed the new President of Iran keeps calling Islamic givernment rather than Islamic republic government! In his speechs he has been calling in our Islamic government...I really feel bad for Iran and Irani!

These are days of my life!

1. Today something interesting happened. I went to do grocery shopping. At the entrance of the shopping store, I went to grab a shopping cart. I notice a middle age lady well dressed is returning the cart. Here if you wish to pick a shopping cart, you have to deposit 2 Fr. The lock is released and you can take the cart. Anyhow, I asked her if I could have her cart, so she doesn’t have to go to the trouble of plugging in the key and gets her money. So, I looked at my wallet and started to look for 2 Fr. Coin! To my surprise I did not have any!! Except .80 rappen, I didn’t have any coin and a bill of 50 Fr.! I told her, I am sorry I do not have any money. You can go on and get your money. She walked the way and said, oh do not worry about it! I was quite surprised with this attitude. Considering I have not shaved for 3 days and I look like Middle Eastern, dude!! this was something! I suppose she ran for her life, though!!

2. The rain keeps coming and coming. Actually it is pouring like there is no tomorrow! It has been raining since last night and going to rain until Tuesday according to the forecast!!

3. Two songs for entertainment:
3.1. I like the meaning of this song. It is from MOEIN.
3.2. This one is a jazz song by George Michael.
(To save any of the above songs, right click on the link and save it).

What have we done for our elders!

1. Today, I was sitting in train going to center of Zurich. In one of the stops this group of elders got in to the train. The common plastic bag in their hand made me wonder. When I focused closely on it, I realized it is advertisement for a company which manufactures a hearing aid. I got curious and started to ask about the event. The old lady explained to me that usually there is information sessions held for elders about what is necessary for them to be aware of. And in this case hearing aid is one of them. They would get information about how and where should be used. For who is necessary, etc. After this short conversation I thought by myself, my father definitely need a hearing aid. Why he doesn’t want to get one! Because from here and there has heard it is not comfortable to have one of them. On the other hand, a simple lack of information. Same thing I heard from one of my colleagues back in Iran about his grand father. Conclusion, we have problem by spreading useful information to our people in Iran. Of course, I am sure someone may say what have we done for young that now we should be concern about elders!!!

2. I went to this BBQ tonight which was held on top of the building known as Swiss engineering building. The host was International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience. What this is, is an organization helps all engineers around the world to find training jobs in abroad especially in western countries (including Iran). Of course, this is not the story I wish to talk about.
My story starts when I arrived to the place on top of rough. As soon as I walked in this is what happened.
I saw 3 Middle Eastern looking guys. They are standing by the entrance door. They turn to me and saying: “you look like a guy who speaks Arabic!”
Alireza: I am sorry [but] I do not speak Arabic.
One of those guys: Where are you from, you look Middle Eastern, though?
Alireza: I am from Iran.
One of those guys: Oh, Iran, Arabic, Iranian, almost the same, you should understand Arabic!!
Alireza: I am sorry I do not. You probably can speak Persian, though!!!
One of those guys: But are you a Moslem? aren't you? You must be Moslem!
Alireza: Sorry fellows do I care who has what religion, I don’t. and I am not here to talk religion. I can care less. And I walked away.

You know, I tend to really feel Arabs have this Muslim thing in their blood!! Because whomever I have meet, they start asking me after saying hi, whether I am Muslim or not!!!!

I am back for the time being

1. Sorry for not writing for those readers who used to read my weblog everyday. I have been away on an assignment and I am quite busy these days as well. I am going to Spain to a conference next month while must attend many meetings and write reports all over. So, my apologies before hand.
2. Anyone interested to hear about my roommates!? If so, there are new developments here:
The girl moved out! She didn’t like living in a small suburb house! and living with the rules that we have. (Like Tuesday we have leave the house before 7:30 since clean lady will come in, she is rough women (If you are still around by 7:30 am, she shouts "get out","you must have had left the house empty by now"!) She apparently moved out with two guys in downtown of Zurich!
The Pakistani Professor moved back to his country. So, no more of him!
Now there are only 3 of us, the Brazilian, Spanish and I.
We still have major problem with cleaning the kitchen, none of these two guys wash their utensils after they used them. This really pisses me off! Because whenever I walk in to prepare a food for myself there is no pan available to cook anything in it!
There are now couple of pros for such small group of people being in this house. Most of the time the entire house is quiet and empty! The bathrooms are only for three people, now.
3. Read the story of women are suspicious of their husbands. read the stor here (It is written in Persian)
4. This guy is apparently anti-marriage and he has his own reasoning. read his article here.
5. For past few weeks except for last few days of June, this area where I live has a temperature fluctuating from 10 to 20 degrees and relative humidity of 60 to 90 %. Now I know why they say Switzerland is cold country!
6. AH, Holland and Germany are playing friendly soccer, I shall watch it! Until next time!:-)

Couple of interesting points on Switzerland

1. The girl is really messy! She also doesn't clean the kitchen after she is done. She would do that about 24 hours later!!

2. In North of Switzerland they technically supposed to speak German. This is quite different from Hoch Deutsch that is common in Germany. I would like to share a few words with you that are vital if you ever passed by this County!
1. Gruetzi it is pronounced Grootsi= Hi to One!
2. Mitnander pronounced Mit-And-Nander=Hello to Two and more!
3. Ahoi Suzam, pronounced Hoi-Sizamn! means hello all!!
4. In Hoch German they say : Es ist schon gut! It means It is good, now.
These guys pronouce Es ist schon gut as E-CH Goote!
Gut=good=Gutte!!
5. Guten Appetite is E-Guotte!!!
6. Schweitz=Switzerland=Schwitz Pronouced Shwits!!!
6. Essen=to eat=Asse!!!
however, this is Spoken German, when they write they are supposed to write hoch German, however, they use lots of English, French and Italian words in them!!

3. These guy really pay attention to quality rather than qualtity, unlike North Americans. The food comes in small portion but in good quality.
I think they have heard this Persian expression: Eat Always, eat less! Kam bokhor Hamisheh Bokhor!!

Let's get somewhat political!

1. I still do not understand why Ganji is on hunger strike. I mean he can leave his hunger strike, can continue to write and educate people. He brain and thoughts are quite more valuable than being lay down like a meat with no movement just waiting to die. With all due respect to him, he has chosen a dark path for his means. THe dark side is prevailing! May the force be with him!

I do not understand us, Iranians, every 25 years we dry to step forward and all of the sudden we jump couple of steps backward by blowing everything and stop what we have continued. We blow reforms by not voting for Moein.
Ganji is self-destructing to achieve who knows what! I think we have really short memory when it comes to our past!
Another thing about Ganji, how could he write so many replies to the letters he received while he has been on strike for 50 day!! I recall we heard that if you do not eat for 30 days you die! 3 days no fluid you die! So, information we have heard so far are all untrue!!!

2. Is it me or wherever I open up a news site or TV I see threatening word for Iran. Iran has been receiving lots of attentions, recently. American are even talking about getting UN green light for a major sweeping! They are referring to new president as a hardliner. So, it means no chance for any changes and dialogue. I hope no war ever take place. It is quite sad.

3. I have to apologize for so many spelling mistakes and other mistakes in my writings. Because I usually spent less than 30 min. to write and I directly type everything in blogger. So. Forgive me for my deepening mistakes!

4. Ciao! bye! tuess! Widersehen! farewell!

Where do I live with what kind of people?

Today, once again I went to that observation mode! I think it is somehow my default mode! Where do I live and what kind of people I am roommate with! This is story of today!

Please keep this in mind that these observations on stated people are based on first impressions. They are also obtained after a few conversations and living in the same house for very short period of time!

Let me start with description of where I live. It all starts from here:
A wooden made house which has recently been renovated with three floors including the basement. Basement is where the kitchen is. A fairly modern one with halogen stews plus required kitchen appliances. Left side of stairs there is also a room for laundry.

On the first floor we have three rooms all equipped with cable TV and ADSL internet access and of course furnished. The second floor has also the same structure. There is bathroom and rest room for every floor as well. Let’s look at the outside sceneries. From north there are clay Tennis courts which are free of people most of the time and on south we have the street. On the east and west sides are walking corridors distances from neighbors.

All right, having explained these fair descriptions now I can tell you who are the people currently have the honor of living in this house.

On the first floor we have two people so far. One is a German girl who seems like a tough girl. Goes mountain biking, and has lots of accessories. (when moved in she had so much stuff that she didn’t have space for them). She talks fairly a lot has a big scar on his neck and chick! How do I know she talks a lot, you may wonder? The first day I saw her, she was just moving in and I saw her with her boyfriend (a tough looking guy with shaved hair) right by kitchen door. No time wasted she started to ask me questions, why am I here? Where did I come from? What do I do? How long am I going to stay here? and what is my field of study! Plus some more question, she hardly let me answer any of them. All of the sudden, the boy friend gets a little angry and tells her with an arrogant voice: “We don’t have the whole day here stading and listen to your BS, but let’s move your stuff in.” He said that in German, thought I wouldn’t understand! I learned that she can cook, too. (just last night I noticed she cocked for her boyfriend, the Spanish guy and herself).
Moving on, to the next dude, who is also on the first floor and is from Brazil! This guy looks lost! He talks English with difficulty wonders about how do I know so many things about his country?! Goes out with so many Brazilian girls! The worst of all, he never cleans the kitchen after he is done eating. I mean does not put the dishes back to their places or cleaning the used areas. He is kind of a lost soul!

Second floor, There is this Spanish guy who feels that he definitely is Alan Delon(spelling) with his looks. Looks at me like why aren’t you cleaning this area?! He tries to speak English with American accent however, he usually screw up if you talk fast to him! little arrogant and snobby! He gives you that look like how Do I look?! George Clooney?? He even locks the door when he goes in his room for a few seconds!(I just realized that, today!)

Another dude, or shall I say a Professor from Pakistan!(Heis around 40 something) He is truly a religious dude. Very strange when you eat lunch or dinner with him. He touches his pointing finger to his left thumb and prays in very low voice while slowly moving those fingers. According to him, He used to study Phd of Materials science in England and that was the time he could cook! Now after his arranged marriage in Pakistan he has not touched kitchen what so ever, except for eating! Once I had couple of friends over from work and had dinner together (It was potluck), he was acting like where should I stay after we finish the food. Shouldn’t you guys clean these dishes?!!

At last, I can talk about myself. Ok, I am guessing from my weblog you can tell what kind of a creature I am! But I have to admit that these dudes mostly do not know how to live with roommates. One of the most important things is cleaning after you are done. They are lacking that. You know I am coming to this vivid conclusion that men in general need women to at least tell them, you'd better clean up your mess! and No matter where is the men from or what culture, we are the same!!
I am the only dude who takes out the garbage (at least have been doing that for the past few weeks, I do that becasue the thing gets very stinky!) and knows how to cook in less than an hour from scratch!!

What is friendship, anyway?

My previous writing Friendship in childhood... in regard of friendship has raised some interesting attraction that some of the readers provided opinion and asked for more clarification. A while ago I wrote an essay on
Love. I would recommend if you get a chance to read that.
Now let’s go back to our friend and friendship:
According to Webster dictionary Friend is defined as:
1. one attached to another by affection or esteem
2. A person whom one knows, likes and trusts.
3. A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; comrade.
4. One who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group.
5. An acquaintance.

On the same token friendship is defined as:
1 : the state of being friends
2 : the quality or state of being friendly

So, I suppose what we can do here is to define what are the states that we have with our friends and volià we may end up somewhere close to what really the definition of friendship is.
Human as social creature likes to be dependent to others plus the fact that we enjoy to socialize, share our views, as well as being approved or heard (i.e. this is supported by psychologist; those who choose solidarity end up to be misfit or run out of their mind)!
A friendship is not just simple one dimensional means to be defined. One thing is for sure that many trait and attributes must be added up to build state of friendship.
This is quite similar to find a lover, however much different in process and realization.
You see a person you find an interest, then you get close and talk. If she/he provides you with state of pleasure, then you may start building up your so called friendship. On the same token, you start to receive and give support. A trust becomes an accepted treaty between you and your new acquaintance. And of course, sharing your views is another point of friendship when is combined with the laughter that fills the air. These qualities provide you with an unprecedented pleasure to your brain and body, which technically creates the essence of friendship and state of being friend!
Moreover, there is this sense of comfort that you develop with your friend, a state that you easily can learn from her/him and vice versa. A mutual respect is another fruit of friendship. When a friend is gone (i.e. dieing or leaving you for a distance) it is difficult to escape from the anguish that you receive during this time.
All and all this is what slowly makes a friendship.
Of course, I can go on and on. However, it is important to understand that these qualities are quite different for any individuals. This is quite similar to the fact that our bodies and minds are different.
I say this one from my own experiences, I am working biomechanical area, it is almost impossible to find two individuals who have identical bone and musculoskeletal structure!
So, you are more than welcome to add more to these qualities and wrote your comments or even write essay and use trackback it to this link.

I end up my writing with this famous song: That's what friends of for
-----------------------------
That's What Friends Are For
Written by Carol Bayer Sager (lyrics) and Burt Bacharach (music)
Made famous when recorded by ensemble known as Dionne & Friends, consisting of Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Gladys Knight
The Dionne and Friends version was #1 on the Top 40 charts for four weeks in 1985

And I, never thought I'd feel this way
And as far as I'm concerned
I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe I love you

And if, I should ever go away
Well then close your eyes and try
To feel the way we do today
And then if you can remember

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For/In good times and/in bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Well you came and opened me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way I thank you

And then, for the times when we're apart
Well then close your eyes and know
These words are coming from my hearts
And then if you can remember

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For/In good times and/in bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for
