why this scent?!

1. I have a sensitive nose! On many occasions I smell things that someone else can hardly smell! And this is a major problem!
Currently, I live with a Chinese guy first generation. About 2 days ago I realized what is the smell that whenever I walk in to the apartment I smell it so strongly. Ok, let me start from beginning!

There are 3 Chinese (1 women, 2 guys) have come to our institute right from China to do some testing and establish standards on particular steel cables for the bridge construction. So, my apartment-mate apparently get to know them, and now for the past two weeks they keep coming to our place at nights because according to them: “they don’t like to eat western food!” and they cook and eat at our place!
Let’s go back to the topic that is the scent. I used to walk in and smell the very strong aroma of feet mixed with vegetables! Finally, I realized what is that! Two days ago I came back and saw they are cooking. I should get to the fact what and how they cook!

Chinese have totally different culture from us! They cook everything with hot spices and chili, meat and vegetables all should be fried, Marjorly. Then, these are put in different plates and a small cup is filled with full soup (as they call it)in front of every person is the start of the dinner of the Chinese. After the soup is finished they fill the bowel with the rice and eat together from those plates and then little from the rice in front of them!
and have I mentioned their culture is that men have to eat the food with open mouth and make noise, burp a few times. on the contrary, women must eat very very quiet and her voice should not be heard or even sensed!

I want to talk about foot aroma that is propagated in our apartment! I realized this smell is initiates from the soup! The soup is made of plain water plus some ginger and Chinese noodle plus some meat. The major smell is from the pork meat! In fact, they boil the water and add pieces of pork in the boiling water without adding any spices! This food has very strong smell and it last for quite sometimes! So, now imagine that…

2. In the train I sometimes get so annoyed that I have to change my seat! I am not getting why men and also many women do not use perfume and some aroma to make their scent pleasant. Perspiration is something we shall wash with soup and water and please use cologne and perfume so, not to bother anyone else just because of your scent or sharp scent.

some news...

1. Have a look at this link. I hope American never start a war against Iran. Becasue things may not look any good.

2. This is from
Molla Hassani weblog. Since I know many in Iran cannot see it!
So, cut and paste it here!

Freddie Mercury and in our defense!

These days is the Freddie Mercurry passed away date. He was a Parsi or Zorastian Iranian who was from Parents from India who grow up in England. He died of HIV in 1992 if I am not mistaken. His music is still with us after all these days, like We are the Champions and etc. I came across this one his which is called in My defense. just writing in defense of many people taken or judged wrongly!

In my defence what is there to say
All the mistakes we made must be faced today
It's not easy now knowing where to start
While the world we love tears itself apart

I'm just a singer with a song
How can I try to right the wrong
For just a singer with a melody
I'm caught in between, with a fading dream

In my defence what is there to say
We destroy the love, it's our way
We never listen enough, never face the truth
Then like a passing song, love is here and then it's gone

I'm just a singer with a song
How can I try to right the wrong
For just a singer with a melody
I'm caught in between, with a fading dream

I'm just a singer with a song
How can I try to right the wrong
I'm just a singer with a melody
I'm caught in between, with a fading dream
Caught in between, with a fading dream
Caught in between, with a fading dream

Oh what on earth, oh what on earth
How do I try, do we live or die
Oh help me God, please help me

Their country; our country, summer recipe and alot more!…

1. Sitting inside the S-Bahn (a train commuting between two close cities) going to my home, there were 4 young boys and girls sitting and talking and drinking can beers. The next stop they get off the train. Soon after they left, the controller comes in and starts to check the tickets. As soon as he gets to the seats that those guys were sitting, he started to collect the remaining cans left by them and also collect the news paper left around me and other seats. Then, dump them inside the closest garbage bin. This may not limited to the collector, I have seen children, young, and old do the same. If someone leaves anything on the ground they tend to throw them out.
I recall when I was quite young, around 8 years of age, we were going to North of Iran for some holiday. I was sitting with my uncle (Daei) at the back seat. He started to peel off an orange and then to my surprise dump them out of the car window!!! I started to cry and getting upset. I went as far as I wanted to go back home! When I think almost none of people in the car were as upset as I was.
At that time I started to develop this question, would we do the same thing when we are in proximity of our home? What is our country? Isn’t that we should consider ouw own country our real home? Aren’t we supposed to keep it clean and pleasant for ourselves and generations to come?
Of course, dumping garbage in any area has its own reasons.
1. may be there is no garbage bin around.
2. No space to keep them.
3. I think our government has done a poor job advertising culture of garbage collecting.
4. Today, I was reading in the news that sewer connections of Tehran will be ready in 25 years. The head of Haydro and sewer organization has indicated the underground sewer connections will be implemented in next 25 years!! It is quite interesting while I was in Canada during Mr. Karbaschi tenant, Iran received about couple of hundred million from World Monitory Found (WMF) to implement this project. However, after certain years nothing done for the project, the money was lost and WMF said this time they will not provide Iran with the money, though with progress report against money!
I wonder a government which does not feels Iran is its own home, how would they respond about this nuclear energy scenario?

In Switzerland many ministers big bosses have this tendency to take train and bike to work. On their way, if something doesn’t work they try to investigate and fix it! Compare this to many countries around the world where the head of governments sitting in their protected cars and not seeing anyone!

2. Regimes which are not into democracy usually have to create a virtual enemy and have everyone’s attention to that, so whomever says anything against the status quo is treated as a traitor.
Having said that as I have been dealing with this imperialism regime of cold virus. It all started with a simple soar throat. My throat was complaining. I removed anything inside my throat complaining!! I will take your attention to the fact that this imperialism is quite against me living a prosper life without running nose and soar throat! This filthy virus wishes to stop me from my very own right to go out and have fun! Down with cold virus and bacteria. I will take economic and food embargo so, they have nothing to eat and die for ever! Enshalah, Nasro menalah va fah on gharib!!

A summer recipe
3. For those in warm climate I wish to recommend the following recipe so, you can enjoy a life without sanction and have these fruits mixed and swallow!
Have you heard the expression Cool as a cucumber (Khiaar)? This is feeling we all relish in the hot, maybe humid days of summer. Do you know what keeps a cucumber so cool? Water. About 95 percent water, in fact. The interior temperature of a cucumber can remain 20 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the outside skin from the cooling effect of the water in the cells.
So having said that let’s try the new recipe:
Pineapple, red pepper and cucumber salad:
1/3 cup (75ml) granulated suger
½ cup (125) cider vinegar
1 cucumber
1.5 cups (375ml) chopped peeled fresh pineapple (can is also possible, too)
1 sweet red paper, cut in thin strips salt
¼ (1ml) hot paper sauce
¼ (aml) freshly ground pepper
6 cups (1.5 L) baby spinach (Sfenaj) leaves or normal lettuce (KAhoo)
25 ml chapped fresh basil (Reyhoon khodemoon)
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, gently heat suger and vinegar, stirring until dissolved. Increase heat to medium and bring to gentle boil. Cook until liquid turns a deep caramel color. Remove from heat and let cool just until bubbles subside.
Meanwhile, cut cucumber in half lengthwise. Cut crosswise into thin slices. Place in a heatproof bowel with pineapple, red pepper, ½ tea spoon salt, hot pepper sauce and pepper. Pour sugar mixture into bowel and toss gently to coat, the caramel will harden but will melt again. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until caramel is melted or for up to 8 hours. Season with more salt to taste.
Divide spinach or lettuce leaves among chilled salad plates. With a slotted spoon, place cucumber mixture on top. Drizzle salads with some of the dressing left in bowel. Sprinkle with basil.
Eat this recipe with your loved ones:-)

there must be a way…

I am these days less motivated! Don’t know why. May be because there has been more or less raining for past 4 weeks! As they say the weather is depressing! May be …
Yesterday, in one of the meeting I was seating listening for almost 3 hours to our department chief, and other people of our group, I started to think… what is our job as professionals? I came with this answer: simply conveying ideas, classify and categorize them and represent them to people. To add the impact of work on the society in whole.
While in Germany for the conference I noticed how boring it is to sit in a lecture hall the entire day and listen to different presenters. I discuss that with my colleagues, I am told if the topic is interesting and I am interested (as an audience) I will listen to it! Otherwise you would lose the interest!
But I don’t think that was the case, in many cases I was getting bored simply by listening to these soulless and unenthusiastic presenters although I was so interested to the topic.
I started to think there must be a way to make a presentation more interactive and nicer to your audience! Something that people can relate and get interested in. Not just talking for 15 minutes, like it is responsibility that must be done and go home!
I started to think what makes my job more interesting? What is my aim? How can I relate to my audience? I couldn’t find answer to my last question. What can be done to put yourself to some else’s shoes.
There must be a way, to get people interest and not letting them fall in sleep after 5 minutes presenting. In an ordinary conversation what happens if we get interested or lose interest.
One could be attraction, if the person who is presenting, is good looking and has nice dress may has an impact. But that may be 20% to us professionals. But what are remaining 80%?
How can we say what we do is good for you? Through marketing guys? Look for problems and telling them how we solve them! In research that is usually good but can not be possible in may places.
Still trying to understand the fact of what makes us going and get enthusiastic. If you know write me!
I wish to hear your comment, if any!

Lost in translation...

1. HUMMM, AOOO, I am asking my Chinese apartment-mate. what doesn these sounds you are making of yourself mean?! why when I say Helllo, you say HUUUUMMM, OHHHsh!?
him: hummma means hello in Chinese! and AOOOA means yes!
thanks for clirifying! as they say in Chinese thank you=SHEE SHEE!!

2. I feel depressed when I think I have no internet at home and doesn't seem I will get one any time soon!

3. Listing to Mike Wallace interview with Mr. Ahmadi Nedajad I realized how important it is to tranlate and convey your meaning properly.
If you get a chance please read the text and then listen to the video on the right hand side.
you will hear what President Ahamdinedjad has said, and what the translator (with huge Iranian accent) has translated! The obvious point is the "make up of President Bush admistration..." I think it is last page of the interview. compare and you will amazed!

you can also read the entire interview in Persian for exact comparision.here in Persian! I hope link works!

Some news from me and funny story of mine!

1. Since Monday I am here in Bern conducting in vivo motion analysis on spine. THe first day we arrived, I was told one of the the two sets of camera is not working! and we can only use one set! My own supervisor said this process may take 4 weeks! unbelievable, these guys are super slow! There is this research/technician assitant who suppose to help, he gets sometimes on nerve, with this French/swiss accent repeating: Forget it, impossible, too compicated, I mean, no way!!! saying it 20 times! getting red on the face! The first day he was going nuts I had to send him out to work on something else!!! No very pleasant experience! I should stay here at least until Friday, if not longer!

2. Some of you what I do and what was my conferece paper about. I do computer modeling of spine in whole at dynamic motion. purpose is to have a quick and ready-to-test facility to test spine implants.

3. why I started to write about I get worry about Iran and Iranian: I was reading a paper about spine and realizing a cycling and continues motion will hurt your discs and spine (vertebrae). So, I recalled so many Paykan and other cars in Iran which are so un-standard and create lower back pain! what are statistics of that! none, zero! there are days I feel, I should go back in Iran and start a orthopaedic facility to help people. Then, I remember how I was treated, it makes me to think twice!

4. Before I get to Bern, on Friday morning the following event took place with my chinese apartment-mate:

Time: 6:55 am
Location: Mr. Doug and Alireza's apartment (Doung: 40 years of age, married and has a doughter of 10, his wife and doughter in China, though)

Ring ring ring, the phone keeps ringing for 2 mintues! I try to ignore it. While I am sleeping or almost sleeping! The second and third time. Finally, I decide to pick up the phone.

Me: Hello!
Person on the other side: Aouaaa
Me: pardon me?!
POS: chin chong doung?!
Me: sorry, I can't understand Chinese!
POS: chin me talk Mr. Doung?
Me: Do you want to talk to Mr. Doung?
POS: ya, chayouaaa
Me: He is asleep!
POS: I cho have to talk to him. I talk him!!!
Me: sorry but I suppose he is sleeping and I wish not to wake him up!!
POS: ching chang dong, me must talk to him…
Me: sorry, may I take a message?!
POS: tell Mr. Doung, Ms. Sohn is calling!!!
Me: ok, I will. Are you calling from China?
POS: Me Chinese!
Me: I know but are you in Switzerland or China?
POS: I Switzerland!
And she hangs up!
...
I finish with my early routine of preparation to go to work.
Mr. Doung opens his door and comes out!
Me: good morning
DOung: ya ya morning
Me: did you hear the ring around 7:00 am?!
Doung: no n n n (with Chinese accent)
Me: somebody wanted to talk to you, her name was Ms. Sohn!
Doung: I don't chao know anybody with that name!!
2 minutes passes:
Doung: oh, I may be know, she is old lady! …
Ching doung dang and some none senses, my wife she found a job. Very old lady!!
Doung: Did you tell her that I am asleep?! or did you tell him I am not at home!!! (with anxiety in his voice and face!)
Me: I told him you are sleeping in your room!
Doung: sigh of relaxation! Ok, that is good, I know her, thanks!!!!

evening comes and I comeback home from work. My chinese apartment-mate sees me:

Doung: oh oh, do you know the women called?!
Me: no, what should I know about her!!
Doung: I will go to her house tomorrow, ahooa, yo ya!
me: good for you!
doung: sigh for a few seconds! oh, may be I stay there, over night...!
me: ok, I don't want to know more....thanks...

I worry for Iran and Iranians...

I am worrying for Iran! For Iran coming under attack for nothing!

I am worry for Iranian people for those teenagers who get simply executed for having a sex before mar-riage.

I am worry for those who die in the prisons of Iran for thinking and promoting thinking.

I am worry for such huge non-standard cars which are causing paralization of those who getting on them, by exceeding vibration; those cars which are assembled in Iran and sold on price of blood to the ordinary people.

I am worrying for increasing level of pollution in Tehran and other big cities of Iran, for which everyday thou-sands die of taxication or related syndromes because of ignorance of officials.

I am worry because Price of Oil is at the highest level and still there are millions of Iranians under poverity line or have to work 3 shifts to ends meet.

I am worry for so many monuments part of ancient heritage left from our ancestors and today no one have time to preserve them.

I am worry for every young person in Iran, who are thirsty for learning and developing, but they get no development, no opportunity.

I am worry for those women who wish to live free of any veil what so ever but forcefully have been veiled on!

I am worry for those human rights advocates whose voices are silent.

All and all, these things brings me to tears and makes me to profoundly worry....

After the conference

The title of this blog seems like after the shock!
...
I am back in one piece and trying to organize myself to further continue of my work.

The presentation was quite good considering I was presenting in front of full audience (about 80 people) and there were even people standing in the corridor. The door was also kept open during my presentation, while people were standing by door! Almost most of the big names in area of Spine biomechanics (Shirazi Adl, Pearcy, Wilke, Rohmann, Bergmann, Wolf, etc.) were in the room!
The chair of the session was Prof. Pearcy who I thought has already passed away!! Funny enough, after the session I asked him, are the famous Prof. Pearcy who has so many publication in regard of kinematics of Spine? He was quite humble to say; yes, but people are nice enough to consider me one of the pioneers!! I have not done so much.
I asked about one about the only missing person from the Spine research gathering, Prof. Panjabi. He said apparently he is retired and I am also semi-retired! According to him, he was only doing some managing in regard of research groups.

I tried to get close to Prof. Shirazi Adl who works in Montreal, Canada. My god, why we, Iranians, become so snobby when we get to a well-known position?! No chance talking to him, he sounded too stiff for my taste!
all and all it was quite great experience. There were about 2800 people in this conference. I have not ever attended any conference with such a huge number of participants.

Now, I am back, I have tons of work. For a day I attended a workshop. Now, I have to get ready to do some in vivo testing.
...
This student of mine who is from US really sometimes pisses me off. Becasue he acts like I have to guide him on every single moment and occasion, otherwise he gets lost! I have much more regards for our own students which I think show higher initiation and enthusiasm.

As soon as I get chance I put up some of the photos.
I still don't have internet at home, so bear with me:D

2. This photo was taken at the receiption of the first day of conferece.
1. One day my boss told me that let's go to new Bayern Muenchen Stadium called Allianz arena. So, there was a friendly game between FCB munchen and Schalke 04.
and the winner was FC Bayern.

greetings from Germanz, Muenchen

Gruss Gott( that is how in Bazern thez saz hello)
I finally arrived in Muenchen about 2 hours ago. The trip was quite comfortable since I was in first class, thanks to where I wirk. If you see some strange characters, I apologize since this keyboard is German!
what gets you attention in downtow of muenchen is number of women with veil. It seems there are lots of Arab here. Another things gets your attention is the way Germans are Americanised! There is only one place which sales famous Brat wurst of Germany, everywhere else, there are Burgekings, McDonalas, Pizza Hut, Hotdog, burgers American Style! I have taken already couple of photos, wich I found interesting, I will post them, as soon as I get a chance.
I will go tomorrow for registeration of the conferece.
while in the train, and trying to practice my presenttion my powerpoint software crashed!! I think this is quite amazing! In Persian we have this expression, The good year can be seen from its good spring! So, my goos spring has not started that well, hopfully the rest will be well.

Democracy Vodoo flying to nowhere

I have 10 mintues until I present my work in our department. So, I decided to say a leap of faith and write quickly something.

1. US with backing up Isreal in this stupid in Southern Lebenon is getting rid of democracy! They go for a meeting in Rome and what is outcome of that?! Nothing, Zero no seize fire keep killing each other! We enjoy it! until a stable solution is on hand! what could that be!

I make two important conclusions:

1.1. American government and other government in the world don't care about us! So, anything like this may happen for Iran. So, Iranian regime if want to save Iran (which I am not sure if they wish!) must be acting more Sensuous!

1.2. I am not sure many recall this, but when I was younger in my school years if two guys were fighting, people'd gather and look at them and made noise but refrain from stopping them from fighting! So, after they beat hell out of each other, if they are still alive, they may become good friends!!!!

2. These days I have working long hours for my work. I listen to old song before the Iranian revolution from Maziar, Moein and otheres! what I cannot get how at the beginning of the Iran revolution they banned playing music and said this is not allowed in Islamic Iran! Music goes to very basic needs of human. When I listen to musics I can work faster, slower, change my mood!!
I have hard time to understand how Iranian people were thinking at those days! Brainwashted!!

Sitting at my Keyboard and ...

Sunday, afternoon sitting at my [computer] keyboard and working! I recalled this song by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder:

Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, Oh lord, why don't we

We all know that people are the same where ever you go
There is good and bad in everyone
Learn to live, we learn to give each other
What we need to survive, together alive

Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, Oh lord, why don't we

Ebony, Ivory living in perfect harmony
Ebony, Ivory, Ooh

We all know that people are the same where ever you go
There is good and bad in everyone
We learn to live, when we learn to give each other
What we need to survive together alive

Ebony and Ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, Oh lord, why don't we

Side by side on my piano keyboard, Oh lord, why don't we

Ebony, Ivory living in perfect harmony

wished everyone lived in Perfect harmony, may be would have been nice to put all political leaders of the world in a boxing ring and give them a boxing glove, so they can settle their own differences without getting involved their own people!
that is of course a wish....

Addiction to writing and reporting!

I am again at work on sunday noon working! and for a few minutes, started to read the latest work of Mollad Hassani in Canada.
Since I know many can not see it in Iran, I cut and paste it here! enjoy:

The shop producing words is closed for the time being!

For the past few weeks I have been working on my conferece paper and presentation.
not that I have got anywhere! somebody should have told me, babam jan madaret khob pedaret khob, if your supervisor doesn't want you to publish what is your own rush!!!!
However, I submitted the abstract and now I am bonded to to get the results I promised!
...
on the other hand, here is about 34 degrees C and humid. Considering we have no air condition in our room and the building! This environmental consciousness of Swiss dudes has been killing me:))
my computer software is now running that is why I got sometimes to do this writing.
For the time being this "shope of word producing is closing down" [at least until first week of August], hopefully one day I will back and write interesting stories for myself and everyone who are interested to read and get amused!

Ezat ziad, farewell wish me luck, I am going to this largest international conferece of Biomechanics, which is held every 4 years. It is in Germany. If anyone is coming, don't be shy, let me know!:-)
