I just come across this video. I have difficult time to form any opinion on this video. however, I give my 2-cents:
the song in general is innovative.
The lyrics has used main stream vocabularies similar to "be ga raft!". I think it is not quite common in Iran musical scene where such idioms are rarely used in a song!
The music is fusion of traditional "tar" and "piano" instruments where the the tendency is given to broader musical rhythm, beat. The problem I think with this song is the repeatation of the lyrics. I understand the song requires this repeatation but it become little boring after a few lines.
The video is made quite well, that is why it does not let you to take you eye of the screen!
in general, I feel Namjoo wishes to describe anxiety that is in Iranians' outside and inside of Iran with such morse like lyrics but then using main stream words, so making a contemporary feel..

Anneversiry of Naser Abdolahi passed away!
How does time fly, it amazes me. Individual's life in cycle of life is almost is needle head in haystack.
It has been three years passed since Naser Abdolahi passed away due to kidney complications. His dead was not exactly investigated, I assume that is for a reason.
In any case, in 2002 when I was back in Iran, I attended his concert in Milad Hall in Tehran International exhibition center. I was amazed how young people praised him especially young girls who were in in the concert, they were screaming and dancing to his songs. He was the sign of change in Iran.
Back in my high school years, we were not supposed to listen to any music similar to Mr. Abdolahi's songs. Those music were considered impure and and agianst the Islam!! those who would listen to it, would have broken law and could have been punished! what were thse days!! damn!
His music was a fusion of 70's mixed with Bandari style from south of Iran, based on his classic guitar and drum performance.
I think it worth revisiting some of his works may be found in youtube.
May rest in peace.
I think he performed this song in the concert I attended.

U2 performance on Iran
It has been a long time that I have not written anything here. There are time in our life that everything seems to be moving quite fast but, ones does not! In any case, I am for a while back in Canada and I am now in Vancouver working.
Last night I attended the U2 Concert "360" at BC Place.
Quite impressive performance with visual effects and stage that capturing all your attention. I think their stage was something comparable to Pink floyd famous round screen. The U2 performance was well and solid contrary to BC Place that makes poor sound reverberation. In high pitch sounds it was very difficult to distinguish the sound of what was sang and what was singing!
In any case, U2 as they performed in many place around the world, performed one complete song (Bloody Sunday) in memory of Iran and its freedom movement. Very impressive.
I took a short video of the performance, I am hoping to upload it!
So, apparently it is too large, I will try later to make it available.

Just discovered by me!!
Perhaps many have seen this movie in Iran and may be around the world. It is called M mesleh Madar (M like mother). I haven't seen it but it seems very strong and deep and perhaps melodrama. Having said that, whenever I watch this clip, somehow I embrace in tears. For all mothers and father who are around the world.
The Director of this movie apparently has passed aways last year or so. Don't know why?
if anyone knows let me know.

Music!
0.1. Reading Arsh weblog and the sad news she heard about her co-worker, reminded me of something a several Years ago in Toronto.
A pleasant and lovely 26 years of age lady who was co-worker of friend of mine accompany us for a lunch in Toronto. We had some conversation and She mentioned that she is going to see a Chiropractic the same afternoon as she feels pain in her neck.
Two days later I saw my friend for lunch and he said, do you recall my co-worker two days ago with whom we had lunch? I said Of course, I recall. He said, she is from neck down paralyzed!! I said you must be kidding! No, I am not, my friend said. Apparently the same afternoon we saw her she goes to chiropractic office. He somehow tries to release pressure of her neck by axially rotating it. Then, she must have resisted, somehow, so, the nerve gets cut or something happens that she can't moves her leg and hands afterwards!!!
This is striking and so sad:(
1. I didn't want to remove previous report about that old women who sells pens to make her ends-meat! I may cut and paste it here again.
here some music: Ok I explain what is especial about this song: Here Dinah Shore sings an Iranian song. Who is Dinah Shore? Wikipedia says: was an American singer, actress, and television personality. She was most popular during the Big Band era of the 1940s and 1950s.
this is my favorite by Hoomayoun Shajarian.
This is by Alireza Asar for Iran, and big punch to eye of AR-ab who think non-senses.

Iranian hip-hop/Rap
It has been a few years that Iranian rappers are becoming some kind of phenomenon in underground music society! There is this artist called Hichkas who is known one of the pioneer of Persian hip/hop. I like his work and his work reflects Iranian society at current stands, but I am a bigger fan of this guy whose name is Yas.
You can listen to him on MySpace, link above. One of his work I like is Be Omid Iran:

Without further ado...this is you, CdeB and Arian
and finally it came out!
p.s. My 2-cents: The start is strong, specially the Irish type of fiddler, but then the theme becomes very rhythmic and CdeB(isch) if I can say that. Not bad for start, but I would supposed they could have made it more high pitch and low pitch, perhaps trying to experiment with Persian tones and so on. of course, this is my opinion.

For those who know me I am a big fan of mellow jazz music. During some of my searches on internet, I found the work Kamram Jahanbani who uses jazz music base with Persian lyrics. Some of his work worth listening to.

I first saw Performance of Josh Gorban in 1999 or 2000 in Ally McBeal series.
I just was looking for one of his work came across this one.
It is wonderful and moving!! enjoy!
If you wish to read the lyrics:
Sento nell'aria profumo di te
Piccoli sogni vissuti con me
Ora lo so
in English:
For You
I smell in the air the scent of you
Little dreams had lived with me
Now I know, I don’t wanna lose you
That sweetness which has no age
Your beauty has no rivals
My heart wants only you
For you, For you, I’ll live
Love is gonna win
With you, With you, I’ll have
Hundreds days of happiness
Hundreds nights of serenity
I’ll do what you’ll ask me to
I’ll go always anywher you go
I’ll give all the love I feel for you
Tell me that you know the future, yet
Tell me that this is not gonna change
Without you I don’t wanna exist
For you, For you, I’ll live
Love is gonna win
With you, With you, I’ll have
Hundreds days of happiness
Hundreds nights of serenity
I’ll do what you’ll ask me to
I’ll go always anywher you go
I’ll give all the love I feel for you
I mustn’t say it to you, by now you know it
That I would die without you
For you, For you, I’ll live
Love is gonna win
With you, With you, I’ll do
Everything you’ll ask me to
I’ll go always anywher you go

too much work would kill you!
1. Last night I woke up around 2:00 shivering and feeling cold. I could not sleep until this morning. So, I decided to go to a doctor. After sitting about 4 hours, I was able to see a Dr. who told me that I have 38 degrees fever! He instructed me to the laboratory to have my blood test taken. The lady poke me the routine to my hand vein and interesting enough, after a few drops the blood stopped. I explained to here that since last night I have not eaten anything and I feel extremely tired and weak! She asked me to put my legs up and my head down so blood flow to my upper body! She then poked my finger for further blood extraction and after 30 minutes I still shivering the result indicated there could be a bacteria or virus in my body! I was prescribed antibiotic for only three days and Ibuprofen 400 mg! Anyhow, I still feel horrible and seems my head is exploding! But at least the temperature has gone down!
2. I finally moved out from my old place where I was living with Chinese. I have to write something funny about him. This was my last encounter.
The sotry goes:
I went to take my ADSL modem and router, so I asked him if he could bring in his old single modem which was USB port and install it on his computer. Making long story short, he brings the modem and then with his accent asked me to install it. After installing, we had to enter a password and userid. I asked him if he recalls. He said: No. I asked him to call Swisscom to find out about the password. So, he did so. I was finalizing my moving and cleaning my room, he called me and said that can I talk to the customer service on the phone! I agreed. I picked the phone, they guy was speaking with French accent, told me that he can’t understand the Chinese what he is saying! After rectifying and sorting out the problem. He asked me to make sure everything works, do as I instruct you.
He said open a web browser open google and type something there to see if the websites work. I open google page. I think many know that google can be set to remember the searches you have already done! You may wonder what he was looking for, I mean the entire pull down menu of the google search had words like this:
Gay pictures!!
Man and man movies!!
Gay going hardcore!!!
And many more gay related photos and movies searches.
There was no search for gay information!
Finally, this was the last observation of the Chinese guy and since first of this months he is back in China!
3. Chris de Burgh and Arian just recorded a song!
Chris has recently completed recording with ‘The Arian Band’. The song, ‘The Words I Love You’, is in English and Farsi and will be included on The Arian Band’s new album for release in Iran this December.
This is an exciting project as it is the first collaboration between Western and Iranian artists. For further information on The Arian Band please visit www.arianmusic.com.

Unknown Iranian bands!
I accidentally came across this Iranian band is called !7th band!! Check out their link for yourself! I didn't like them so much! the music is mellow with beat 4/4 weight and is not bad the combination of instruments they provide. The problem are the lyrics. Too monotonic and 200 times the same thing is said!
see the video!
check out more on youtube. So many Iranian new bands which I have never seen or heard!
2. Now about something lovely! Anniversary of Ms. Mokarameh Ghanbari's paintings! According to this column She started to paint when she was in her 60s! She was from one of the small villages of North In Mazandaran of Iran in 1928 was born. She become so famous that aparently she become women of the year when She travels to Sweden for exhibition of her work!
Anyhow, it is quite lovely, May She restin peace.

lots of work!
1. Since I have arrived from Canada I have been working around the clock 7 days a week!
I had to prepare the first draft of my paper and give it to my advisor, at the same time present in PhD club meeting, add to all that 8 hours meeting for setting up symposium which in taking place on 21 of this month! I am trully exhausted!
and now I have to go shopping! someone just asked me if I would like to go to the wine exhibition tonight! I turn him down! that is unusual for me:D
2. A few days a ago I have a office mate who is from Switzerland. We were both working late. it was around 9:00 pm and I said what are you listening to. She just told me Edith Piaf! I just couldn't resist to have her to play it for me!
Although these are not my time music. But I have also heard them when I was quite young since my paretns were litening to her.
anyhow, I suggested we should bring in some UFO lights, I wear hat from 1940 and start a bar with martini to serve people who come in:)
and of course: La vie En Rose

All by myself!
As a fan of Sergei Rachmaninoff, I always was wondering why I feel I have heard this song in my life sometime before!
All by myself is the song. Written by Eric Carmen in 1975 the song has great infuence of No. 2 Piano concerto in C minor of Sergei Rachmaninoff (I just recetly read that!) and was powerfully performed by Celion Dion in 1996.
See the performance by Ms. Dion in Youtube.
Lyrics:
When I was young
I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone
Livin' alone
I think of all the friends I've known
When I dial the telephone
Nobody's home
All by myself
Don't wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
Hard to be sure
Sometimes I feel so insecure
And loves so distant and obscure
Remains the cure
All by myself
Don't wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
All by myself
Don't wanna live
All by myself
Anymore
When I was young
I never needed anyone
Making love was just for fun
Those days are gone
All by myself
Don't wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
All by myself
Don't wanna live
Oh
Don't wanna live
By myself, by myself
Anymore
By myself
Anymore
Oh
All by myself
Don't wanna live
I never, never, never
Needed anyone
