Eulogy!

Alireza Ab, a prominent Dr. wanna be in biomechanics, died last night from complications of losing his hope to find a soul mate and becoming a real Dr! He was soft-spoken, obsessive, and wanna be! Alireza never looked the part of a hopeless romantic. His logical analysis and story telling ability was expressed by some as obstacle to his love life (he was talking too much precisely to say), by other some a holy path to balance-hood and his sole advantage for being heard perhaps. But, in the final days of his life, he revealed an unknown side of his psyche. This hidden quasi-Jungian persona surfaced during the Agatha Christie-like pursuit of his long reputed soul mate who he never found or may be was to be found but he didn’t conceive. This pursue also included the ever wanting understanding of life meaning and what can be done to be happy and whether working hard will prosper him to get a PhD degree (what else?!). Sadly, the protracted search ended late Saturday night in complete and utter failure. When he realized that he will never accomplish any of those on his agenda list! Yet even in certain defeat, the courageous all along Alireza secretly clung to the belief that life is merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences. Or rather, it is a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan. Asked about the loss of his dear friend, Dr. wanna be Salman Chegini, who is admirer of his highness Dr. Haj A. Fergi, described Alireza as a changed man in the last days of his life!! "Things were clearer to him, he said: “I see dead people", Chegini noted. Ultimately Alireza concluded that if we are to live life in harmony with the universe, we must all possess a powerful faith in what the ancients used to call "fatum", what we currently refer to as destiny. What is destiny a series of decisions we make that in many occasions make us to regret! May he rest in peace!

FIFA suspends Iran Football Federation

Finally FIFA suspended Iran from taking part in any international tournament. Believe or not I think this is great news!! you may wonder why!? I think becasue:

1. For the first time the international community showed that Sports should be seperated from politics!
2. If you don't ply by the international rules you are toast and out of reach!
3. If you want to be part of world community, just come to the field like any other player and learn how you can imporve your ability by the means avaliable to you!
4. Since Iranians could not take their raghiteous need to say Football is seperated from politics, FIFA did the job and I am profoundly like this: "Organisation of new elections under the supervision of FIFA and the AFC after the approval of the above-mentioned new IRIFF statutes."
5. I think this is a great finger to President AhamdiNedjad that you feel things can be run by your standard, you are wrong dude!

cleaning of our residence

1. Believe it or not one of my favorite works in home is cleaning our apartment specially, our washroom and bathroom! This Chinese apartment-mate of mine doesn't like to do cleaning of those doomed area of the residence, so, usually I take care of them. I have notice many people may not like to do so, but somehow I enjoy it because it gives me a great feeling after I see the the entire WC emits pleasurable scent and things are crystal clear and reflecting the light so vividly!:-) It makes me to seat in there or wash myself with more patience and relaxation! The next thing I enjoy to clean in a house is the Kitchen! I feel a pleasant feeling when walking in to the kitchen that has order and cleanness! and I always wish to have one of those large kitchen where the stove is in the middle of kitchen and there is large hood on top of it, all around it there is the cooking utensils!

Good Bye...!

No, I am not saying goodbye like many people! I am talking about James Blunt who has been singing since he has come back from Balkan war. I introduce him two years ago I think. browse his website and see listen to some of his work.
I was listening to one of his songs called goodbye my lover, I enjoy it, so wish to put up the lyrics:

Did I disappoint you or let you down?
Should I be feeling guilty or let the judges frown?
'Cause I saw the end before we'd begun,
Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won.
So I took what's mine by eternal right.
Took your soul out into the night.
It may be over but it won't stop there,
I am here for you if you'd only care.
You touched my heart you touched my soul.
You changed my life and all my goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I've kissed your lips and held your head.
Shared your dreams and shared your bed.
I know you well, I know your smell.
I've been addicted to you.

Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

I am a dreamer but when I wake,
You can't break my spirit - it's my dreams you take.
And as you move on, remember me,
Remember us and all we used to be
I've seen you cry, I've seen you smile.
I've watched you sleeping for a while.
I'd be the father of your child.
I'd spend a lifetime with you.
I know your fears and you know mine.
We've had our doubts but now we're fine,
And I love you, I swear that's true.
I cannot live without you.

Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

And I still hold your hand in mine.
In mine when I'm asleep.
And I will bear my soul in time,
When I'm kneeling at your feet.
Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow.
I'm so, I'm so, I'm so hollow.

An incident in UCLA

1. I just find out about this incident. It is what has happened for an American-Iranian student in UCLA library.
Check it out for yourself and be the judge!
I think the best thing happened to internet is Youtube!

I would suggest to those in UCLA who would like to keep their university accountable for what they do, call chancellor office at UCLA and demand an investigation.

The tradeoff!

Many jobs that engineers are involved with are making intelligent tradeoffs between conflicting parameters. As one parameter is improved the other is worsen! As engineers, we are trained to quantify different tradeoffs, draw some kind of cost/benefit curve, make a rational choice based on our analysis!
One simple example is computer networking’s tradeoff between connectivity and security! This issue has been always discussed but I have yet to see the spark of an analytic justification for decisions made. It is easy to get perfect security, simply disconnect from any network. But while your costs-that is consequences of a successful security breach-have fallen to zero, so have your benefits! The value of a network increases with number of connected users. The more people and computers are connected, the greater will be the information acquired, the commerce attained and so forth. But as your connectivity increases your vulnerability to bad viruses of the network and those posing as friends! How do we make the networking tradeoff? In my mind, by separating those variables on a x-y cost/benefit curve. Plotted along x-axis is the cost associated with the risk of opening the network, while the y-axis measures the benefits of increasing connectivity. The cost in a business environment might be the probable loss of sales, increased liability, or momentary losses due to expected computer intrusion. The value of connectivity could be better operational efficiency more knowledge and satisfied staff!

Having explained all the above, I have to come to the conclusion that more or less on every corner of our life we are facing to establish some kind of cost/benefit analysis. Imagine the medication that you are taking! The side effect vs the health you gain! The years you spend study to become a professional in cost of your productive years which are getting by!
So, what makes me wonder is how Iranian president Dr. Ahamdi Nejad cost/benefit analysis is intact!
For population increase! I wish not to do any further cost/benefit analysis since we have seen once its effect! For nuclear energy production. I can visualize the plot that the cost or prices that Iranian people are paying for possessing nuclear energy and other the y-axis we have the benefits that Iranians are receiving from such technology investment. The prices and cost that are associated with this decision can be expanded as economy sanction from countries around especially the big industrial ones, lack of foreign investment for a country which has to create jobs for its people on 1.5 million bases jobs per year (currently they are creating 100 thousands of that that translates 10% of what is needed according to Iranian media!) and of course isolating Iranians from outside world and may be a war that is destroying any rational thinking! Not to mention, the probable cost of environment waste and human life danger that might be exposed to because of possible radiation emission. The gains of this project is also technologically we may be accepted as a country which know-how to enrich uranium, investment on energy for future generation! And probable stability of the regime and perhaps the country! However, the human rights issues will be also be jeopardized!
So, I truly wonder if in many occasion I made a thorough cost/benefit analysis and made a proper decision!

Occupatinal health and safety!

Back in 2003 and 2004 when I was in Iran, during my employment in one of the factories there, I had to fight literally a lot with upper management to provide informational sessions for floor workers about the materials they were exposed to or the safety issues. I think one of the major reasons I got into disagreement with that head of company and management team was my idea of making information available to all to protect the workers rather than treating them as nothing ordinary floor workers!
I just came across this report from BBC Persian which reports the rate of death due to accidents at occupations are increasing in Iran. The report is here in Farsi. I cut and paste it here for those who can not see!

Being proud!

So, after not believing in myself in many years!, about a few minutes ago I got this tap on shoulders from my boss!!

The conversation was about number of qualified people from other countries who wish study in advanced science in west. Then my boss told others in the room, there were about 70 qualified people who applied for my position and out of them 20 people were Swiss! but they picked the best one (showing me!!!) (i.e. I think this coming week I will disappoint him since I am not ready for my presentations next week!!! good bye fame!:-))

The department people perception before I come here is quite interesting, according to them I am easy to talk to, they told me they were afraid about many things before I arrive! for example, how to situate my seat in the office! Since I am from a Muslim country what happens if they back where I sit is towards Makkah or opposite of it! They were afraid if I wish to pray 5 times a day! How that would be possible in the room!
even afew said they wish not to sit in the same room with me! according themseleves (now one of them, he offers me to go along with him to the concert!!)
Now they have realized I am not religious and open to any conversion, their perception of Iranian people has changed! many of them were saying we felt that Iran should have been bombed before knowing you! but now we think otherwise!
I wonder how much media has effect on how people judge about certain group of people!
So, I am proud (if not doing anything else this far) have changed perception of people towards Iran and Iranians. I am proud of myself as a Iranian-Canadian to do so. I think it worth mentioning that I am in debt to Canada and Canadians for exposing me to different culture and giving me how to think free!

Hostage taking of American embassy about 28 years ago what made Iran falling!!!

Certain mysteries about our government baffle me! We have realized that radicalism is not a way to go. The walked path is gone and there are still people who believe that this path is path to triumph or success or may be amusment!!
Yesterday was the anniversary of 28 years after hostage taking of American embassy in Iran. What makes me wonder there are still people who go on the street and shout against a country or two! see the photos.
I was a little child when there was hostage taking, so I can't recall much. but those who started this hostage taking were the one who promoted the radicalism and establish lack of freedom. An example is in a house whose father or mother swears at each other we shouldn't expect that the children sit back and not getting vicious!

What is not acceptable for me is that those students who were thinkers and technically leader of that era 28 years ago simply must have known that invading an embassy of any country tranlates to waging war against that country! This is and was against any international laws! Of course, this has created 28 years of American embargo and many other problems that Iranians are still experiencing!

President Ahmadi Nedjad who says UN and International Court of Laheh are worthless of respecting and are in hands of Imperlisim, should be reminded that Iran via International Court of Laheh received its Oil industry independency in 1953! So, Wherever you are and whatever you do respect the international laws!
Hope the new generation realizes that the path must be base on respect and dialogue!

In depth of some recent news!

These days I am busy (who is not!) with courses, research and my father stay who just left me. So, I couldn’t write much though I have been following the news as much as I could! Here it goes:

1. Our kind and Merciful President has encourage the women to bring in as many as children they wish! No matter who says what! Just give birth, this is your national, Islamic and intercontinental duty! Just do it! You see Nike didn’t put up this just do it commercial for nothing!!

2. Watching Ahmadi Nejad, The leader of IR who I won’t name and George W. Bush speeches quite closely I realized they have a lot in common! Not only they can’t not say some related theme, though they simply have this term in their speeches called “enemy”! They have created in their minds a hypothetical enemy that is waiting and manipulating us! If we sit back, everything will collapse! The enemy is out there, we have to be ready to fight them! Anybody talked abut acute schizophrenia, seeing things, hearing things!!)

3. talking about schizophrenia, and masochism! Just recently Hazate Aytoolah
Makarem Shirazi Damat Barakati, allowed that body punishment is necessary for a women who doesn't listen to their partners! Read it here for yourself in his website!
You know I like this part the most: "It is remarkable that as per psychologists, there is a state of masochism in some women which is sometimes intensified, and appears as a mental crisis. In such critical and exceptional cases, mild punishment is effective in their mental relief."

4. Talking about strange people it worth noting that rather than making enemies in our mind may be we can make friends and jobs! Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said an Israeli and Palestinian have started a fundation that are making a bridge among the young Israeli and Palestinian muscians. Read the rest on the above link!

I'd better go think of devestating effects of global warming on economy (reported by Sir Nichlas Stern and depletion of Fishes from Oceans, until next time!
